550 LITRE FLOTATION MODULE
This float has been specifically designed for use under 'Sea Grass' pontoons and 'Effluent Treatment' pontoons.
The narrow width and larger depth of the floats allows us to build pontoons with much smaller water plane area in comparison to deck area.
Floats can be filled with water or concrete to add ballast to increase stability.
Ballast can also be used to raise and lower the float for different freeboard requirements. Floats can also be foam filled for extra security if required.
Max load 250kg, 400kg when foam filled
Product weight 34kg,55kg foam filled.

Frequently Asked Questions - 550 Litre Flotation Module
1. What is the 550 Litre Flotation Module?
The 550 Litre Flotation Module is a heavy-duty rotationally moulded polyethylene float designed for sea grass pontoons, effluent treatment pontoons, oyster cultivation pontoons and industrial floating platforms.
2. What material is the 550 Litre float made from?
The float is manufactured from durable marine-grade polyethylene that is resistant to corrosion, UV exposure and harsh marine environments.
3. Is the 550 Litre Flotation Module Australian made?
Yes. The 550 Litre Flotation Module is proudly Australian made by Marine Dock Systems.
4. What applications is the 550 Litre float suitable for?
The float is commonly used for sea grass pontoons, sludge treatment pontoons, pump platforms, mixer pontoons, oyster lease pontoons and industrial floating structures.
5. What is the maximum load capacity of the float?
The 550 Litre Flotation Module has a maximum load capacity of approximately 250kg and up to 400kg when foam filled.
6. How much does the float weigh?
The standard float weighs approximately 34kg and weighs approximately 55kg when foam filled.
7. Can the float be foam filled?
Yes. Foam filling is available for additional flotation security and improved safety in demanding marine applications.
8. Can ballast be added to the float?
Yes. The float can be filled with water or concrete ballast to improve stability and adjust freeboard levels.
9. Why is the float narrow and deep?
The narrow width and increased depth help reduce water plane area while providing excellent buoyancy and stability for specialised pontoon applications.
10. Is the float suitable for wastewater treatment plants?
Yes. The 550 Litre Flotation Module is widely used for sludge treatment systems, mixer pontoons and effluent treatment facilities.
11. Can the float be used in saltwater?
Yes. Polyethylene construction provides excellent resistance to saltwater, marine growth and chemical exposure.
12. What are sea grass pontoons?
Sea grass pontoons are specialised floating platforms used for environmental management, marine research and access in sensitive marine ecosystems.
13. Is the float suitable for oyster cultivation pontoons?
Yes. The 550 Litre Flotation Module is commonly used in modular oyster lease pontoons and aquaculture applications.
14. Can multiple flotation modules be connected together?
Yes. Multiple floats can be incorporated into modular pontoon systems of virtually any length and configuration.
15. Does the float require maintenance?
Polyethylene floats require very little maintenance and are designed for long service life in harsh marine and industrial environments.
16. Can the float be used for pump and mixer platforms?
Yes. The float is frequently used for floating pumps, mixers, screening equipment and water treatment systems.
17. Will the float rust or corrode?
No. Polyethylene is corrosion resistant and will not rust, rot or deteriorate like traditional materials.
18. Are engineering drawings available?
Yes. Detailed drawings and technical information are available for the 550 Litre Flotation Module and associated pontoon systems.
19. Is the 550 Litre float suitable for commercial projects?
Yes. It is suitable for commercial marinas, industrial facilities, councils, aquaculture operations and environmental projects.
20. Why choose the Marine Dock Systems 550 Litre Flotation Module?
