Frequently Asked Questions - House Boat Pontoons
What are house boat pontoons?
House boat pontoons are flotation hull systems designed to support floating homes, recreational houseboats and commercial accommodation vessels. Marine Dock Systems houseboat pontoons are manufactured from durable polyethylene flotation modules for long service life.
What sizes of houseboat hulls are available?
Marine Dock Systems offers houseboat hull packages in 5.6 metre, 7 metre, 8.5 metre and 10 metre lengths. Custom sizes can also be designed to suit specific project requirements.
How much weight can the houseboat pontoons carry?
Load capacities vary depending on hull size. The 5.6 metre hull system can support approximately 2600kg, while the 10 metre hull system can support up to 5000kg of load capacity.
What are the flotation modules made from?
The flotation modules are rotationally moulded from high-quality polyethylene resin with excellent resistance to impact, UV exposure, marine growth and corrosion.
Can the pontoons be foam filled?
Yes. Marine Dock Systems can supply flotation modules foam filled for additional security and buoyancy protection if required.
Can the flotation modules be used for drinking water storage?
Yes. The flotation modules can be used for drinking water storage, ballast water or waste storage depending on the project requirements and installation design.
Are the floats available separately?
Yes. The 840 litre flotation modules and matching nose cones can be purchased separately for custom houseboat and pontoon boat projects.
What is the purpose of the nose cone?
The nose cone forms the bow section of the hull, improving water flow and helping create a more efficient catamaran-style houseboat design.
Can I build my own houseboat using these pontoons?
Yes. Many customers purchase the flotation modules and construct their own custom houseboats, floating cabins, pontoon boats and waterfront accommodation projects.
Do the flotation modules have built-in mounting points?
Yes. All flotation modules feature moulded mounting lugs that allow direct connection to aluminium, steel or timber framework systems.
Can Marine Dock Systems supply complete houseboat packages?
Yes. Marine Dock Systems can assist with hull packages, motor brackets, handrails, flooring, steering consoles, roofing systems and other accessories required for complete houseboat construction.
How much do the flotation modules weigh?
The 840 litre flotation module weighs approximately 46kg unfilled and 78kg when foam filled. The matching nose cone weighs approximately 35kg unfilled and 52kg when foam filled.
Can the houseboat pontoons be shipped internationally?
Yes. Marine Dock Systems ships houseboat pontoons throughout Australia and internationally. Up to 24 floats fit into a standard 20-foot container and up to 48 floats fit into a standard 40-foot container.
Are the houseboat pontoons suitable for saltwater use?
Yes. The polyethylene flotation modules are resistant to saltwater corrosion, marine organisms and most chemicals typically encountered in marine environments.
How do I get a quote for a houseboat pontoon system?
Contact Marine Dock Systems with your required boat dimensions, intended use and desired accessories. Our team can recommend the most suitable flotation system and provide a detailed quotation.
